After 100 years in business, this local Asheville, NC warehouse was ripe for a digital transformation. Hannah Rogers, the Director of Operations for Union Transfer, an agent of United Van Lines, saw an opportunity to save time, reduce errors, and have full transparency into everything coming in and out of the company’s warehouse.

"I think about all the hoops we had to jump through to make everything work together when they really don't work together." She explains, "How cool would it be to have one thing so streamlined it just worked? A straight shot from driver to storage."

There's only one warehousing management tool in the market designed specifically for the moving and storage industry.

"We've got to go electronic. We've got to barcode," said Rogers. She discovered different barcoding systems in her extensive research, but only one was designed specifically for the moving and storage industry. "It's very complex when listing what I need a program to do. It was not simple."

Warehouse was designed over years of working closely with warehouse managers, so the system checked all her boxes and more. "I'm excited about the report feature and being able to track things that we hadn't thought of running a report on before." When she started exploring the custom reporting, she thought, "Wow, these are very detailed and can help us run analytics on our warehouse. That's not something we had access to before."

Warehouse enables massive growth through automation.

Union Transfer is "busting at the seams," Hannah says, "and that's a great problem to have." But she needs software that can scale with them. "I need my 100 clients to receive an automated notification of their items being here." Warehouse automates communication with your clients and allows them to self-serve by giving them access to their own portal. "One of my clients has 50 accounts with us, so accessing their inventory is a big deal for them," says Hannah.

Set your business apart with customer portals.

"The client portal is a selling point for us," she explains. "If someone is on the fence. We show them how up-to-date we are. They'll be able to look at everything, including pictures and access documents. They think that's really neat."

Ease of use makes onboarding Warehouse simple.

You can quickly get up and running when you become a Warehouse customer. Hannah was worried she might have to import items manually, but the HQ team helped her batch import all of Union Transfer’s warehouse data and documents. "I asked for a couple of custom reports, and I didn't even know if they were possible, and she's like, 'here it is, it's done.'"

As far as learning new software, Hannah says, "It's very user-friendly. I was able to pick up on it fairly quickly."

Warehouse also has a mobile app for staff on the warehouse floor. "The app for our warehousing guys, they just ran with it. It was very simple for them." Hannah and everyone at Union Transfer was up and running and confident using the software within three weeks.

Warehousing technology is critical for the financial health of your business.

"The elimination of error was the deciding factor for me," Hannah explains. "Your success is determined by doing everything accurately. Forgotten or untracked items add up to cost in both time and the actual cost of those items. Being able to eliminate that error because you are tracking things in real-time that's the game changer."
